Free Text Search. On the Main Page you can
make free text searches to the database. The Free Text Search
searches for objects, works of art, pictures etc. by object
name/title or picture subject/title/type. Enter the name of the
desired object in the field. The name can be a common noun, dialectal
name, scientific name, slang name, brand name, title, or name of
work, such as pulka, vase, mobile. You can use an asterisk (*) to cut
off the word.

access to a page where you can make queries based on the metadata of

Descriptions of the Search Fields:
Searches for objects, works of art, pictures, etc. by
object name/title or picture subject/title/type. The name of the
desired object is typed in the field. The name can be a common
noun, dialectal name, scientific name, slang name, brand name,
title, or name of work, such as pulka, vase, mobile.
Searches for objects and pictures based on the actor. The
actor can be a person, company or community. The desired actor's
last name (e.g., Topelius) or full name (e.g., Topelius,
Zacharias) is used as search term, and the alternatives in the
pull-down menu can be used to specify whether the actor is
connected to subject, production or usage.
Searches for objects and pictures by geographical
location. The name of the place (continent, country, municipality
etc.) is typed in the search field. With the alternatives in the
pull-down menu the query can be specified by the location of the
subject, the place of production, usage or acquisition.
Searches for objects and pictures by date. Search by
typing in the beginning and end year (e.g., 1900-1910).
Searches for objects based on physical properties such as
materials, support, finish and style. The search term can be the
name of the material, the working method, or the form (e.g., wood
or aspen wood, birch, block board, root etc. or metal, silver,
gilded etc.); the style (e.g., Empire); the support (e.g., cloth,
Searches for objects by subject headings. The desired
subject heading is entered as search term. A search button (Add
Subject Heading) at the end of the search field produces a
selection of available subject headings.
Add Subject Heading -link: The link gives you
access to an ontology browser for choosing a subject heading in the
advanced search. The ontology page has its own instructions.
